This weekend, Arx Saturday (Arxantai) is celebrated in a springlike fashion at the Traffic Park (Liikennepuisto).

Pedal cars and bicycles are driven and ridden on the streets of a tiny city. Children can also practice driving radio-controlled cars around a circuit.

In workshops, birdhouses are built and herbs are planted. Tagetes can be taken home, perhaps for Mother’s Day presents. Young enterpreneurs of the Hämeenlinna 4H Organization run a café that serves food. If the weather is nice, people can go on picnics on the grass.

The children’s and youth choirs of Sulasol are performing in the event. Kolmekuutoset from Jyväskylä perform at 11:00. The name of the choir comes from the singers being students from elementary school grades three through six. The choir will be 35 kids strong on Saturday. The program consists of traditional children’s choir songs, folks songs, and spiritual music. The music is combined with exercises and theater performances.

The Cantus Michaelis choir of the Mikkeli music classes performs at 12:00.

The event is hosted by the official participation host of Hämeenlinna, Pentti Nyholm. He will also be playing guitar and singing with children. Troubadour Jeremias is also attending.

The event is produced by the Sulasol Amateur Musicians’ Association, the Hämeenlinna 4H Organization, and the Children’s and Adolescents’ Culture Center ARX. The event is free of charge.

On Saturday May 13th at 10 am to 2 pm, at the Traffic Park (Liikennepuisto, Torikatu 22).
